If anyone has a self steering windvane that they are able to part ways with, I would be interested making a deal for it. I’m preparing for a single-handed trip this summer and will need a reliable, non-electric self steering system.
Might want to try a RM Evo and see how little electricity it uses. By correcting the heading before any significant error develops the AP motor is just overcoming the rotational inertia of the steering system. Thus very little rudder force translates to low electrical requirements. Jimmy Buffett singing Margaritaville on medium volume uses more electricity than my AP (balanced and moderate sail conditions).
