The original mast step installed in my 440 was defective in that the drainage channel was not long enough and was clogged with caulking material. That caused corrosion on the step. As a result, I replaced the step with a new one. The old step could be brought to a usable state if it were cleaned up, and a file was applied to the drainage channel to open it up. I was going to throw the old step away, but it occured to me that someone may be able to put it to good use. The dimensions probably fit other boats besides the 440. If anyone wants it, please let me know. The only charge would be for shipping, and I am located in FL.
Where is the drainage channel and how can I check to see if it is clogged or not? Can you post a picture of your old step?
One way to tell if it is clogged is by pouring water in the cable hole at the bottom of the mast. I am having trouble finding photos of my old step, but it was pretty badly corroded. Pictures of how the step should look are attached. Let me know if you need further information. The first picture shows the defective casting where the ends were sometimes closed off. The step is attached to, the keel with 5200, and excessive sealant had also closed off my channel. IP sent me a new step with a milled channel on the bottom that works fine now.
