Hello Factory..............
I am buying a Rocna 20 anchor for my IP380. Based on the Rocna chain recommendations, the IP380 is on the border of either a 8mm US 5/16" chain or the heavier 10mm US 3/8" chain. (They actually recommend a 9mm chain with a WLL of one tonne)
I would like to fit 60 metres (200ft) of chain. If I go for the 10mm option this would weigh 138k/g about 304lb
3 Questions -
Is this a reasonable / safe weight to carry in the anchor locker ?
Would it have an adverse affect on the boat to carry that much weight forward ?
Do the factory have a recommendation on anchor chain for a IP380 ?

Hi Gerry
We have a Rocna 25 on our IP380 and we coupled that with 60 metres of 8mm hi-test chain with oversize links at each end. We got the chain from Bradney chain in the UK. We also have a CQR and 25 metres of chain going into the anchor locker. I am thinking of ditching the CQR and the putting the 25 metres of chain in a low locker somewhere. Our 380 still sails OK but I am not sure if less weight in the bow might be a good thing which is why I'll move the other 25 metres. We have had this setup for 18 months and during this time have sailed from Portsmouth to the west coast of Ireland and from there to the Firth of Clyde. We've been very happy with the Rocna and new chain and have spent many secure nights at Anchor. One reason for sticking to 8 mm was that to go to 10 mm also meant changing the gypsy on our windlass.
When first using the Rocna I thought we had snagged something on the seabed because it set itself so quickly.

I think I will follow the same approach and go with the 8mm and oversize end links.

Hi Gerry,
Since 2001 I carry a Buegelanker 25 kg. with 60 mtrs s.s.chain 8 mm. which is the main ancre;there is another of 20 kgs. with 10.mtrs 8 mm chain. Never had the idea that it is too heavy up front.We sailed the Caribbean, Eastcoast USA Canada mostly anchoring and never had a problem. The s.s.chain is still like new and I think it is worth the extra money.esp.for warmer waters.

Thanks for the input. I have checked out the s/s chain, but it is about 5 times more expensive !
I will have to look at the budget again.
