I have a Heart Interface Link 2000 hooked to a Freedom Invertor. The unit monitors batteries and "controls" the invertor and charge system - I think..... however, charger seems to work OK without Link operating.
The unit, 10 years old, was working fine when I left the boat last weekend. This weekend, when I opened up, no lights, no readout and just a green glowing blank background screen.
Resetting the Link has not helped.
1. Any ideas?
2. If it has failed, is there an option to installing a $600 replacement? While I believe I can source an exact replacement, Xantrex have discontinued the unit and while it would be easier to fit an exact replacement and save me hiring an electrician I'm wary of spending a lot of money on a discontinued system.
Suggestions most welcome.

Have you checked all of the wiring and fuses, re-seated all of the cable connections at both ends, reset the inverter, and otherwise just had a good look around for any obvious problems?
Assuming that the Link is really dead I would simply drop in a replacement and avoid any hassles with wiring changes, panel cutouts, new programming techniques, etc. - after all if the "old" unit met your needs and gave you 10 years of service in a marine environment then that's actually rather good! I don't see any reason why the replacement shouldn't give you a repeat performance ...

Thanks - yes I did have a root around and all looked sound to me.
I'll follow your advice and just get a replacement.

I would try breaking and re-making the various cable connections at both ends before investing any money ... sometimes a connection (especially for a control harness or loom) may look sound but corrosion on contact surfaces can still cause a problem. This is especially true for any plug-in style connections.
Is there any chance that you have someone else in your marina with the same control that might let you swap theirs into your boat (for just a few minutes) as an experiment to see if your Link really is bad?
Also, have you contacted Xantrex Tech Support to see what they suggest in terms of troubleshooting based on the symptoms, age, etc.?

Hi. Unfortunatley IP is not too well represented in Scotland so finding a boat with a Link will be a long shot.
Xantrex said they thought it just plain died!
I'll try the cabling again and if nothing works, just spend the money. It's why we buy boats after all.

The Link 2000 controller (along with the associated inverter/charger combo) is widely used in many applications, not just marine. I've got one in my RV (caravan?), for example. You might just be surprised how many of them are around your marina even if there aren't any other IPs!
Make sure to check and see if you have the 'R' model (with alternator/regulator control) before ordering a replacement ... there's a difference in both price and functionality.
