I don't know if others experience this problem, but I certainly have. It isn't anything new. It usually takes a minute or more to post a new message. It doesn't seem to have anything to do with bandwidth as the speed is the same with a very fast cable modem connection or a much slower aircard.
I usually post and then open a new tab and go on to other internet stuff while it processes my message. Several minutes later I will close the IP Home Port window after the posting has cleared.
So, is it me and is there any solution.
No other forum does this to me, but no other forum I participate in has this forum software either. BTW there isn't anything else wrong with the software. It has some unique quirks with its message editing functions, but once you learn it, works fine.

David,
Thanks for the post. The delay that you describe is not uncommon, unfortunately. I see the same delays even as the site administrator. As you said, everything else about the forum works fine, it's just that abnormally long delay for the acknowledgement once a post is made.
I believe based on my troubleshooting that the issue lies with the forum software and not the hosting provider. I've attempted multiple times to identify a fix via the forum vendor, but they are essentially out of business and not very prompt in terms of providing any support. None of their suggestions have made any difference.
I've looked at some potential replacements for the forum software but there are no drop-in alternatives. I'm concerned that if I try to use another brand of forum that a) we may not be able to migrate all of the user accounts, preferences, etc. forward, b) we may not be able to migrate the nearly 10,000 posts and the associated thread structures, and c) we may not be able to migrate the look & feel.
One of the reasons that this particular software was chosen years back was the ability to 'skin' the forum and make it appear to be 100% integrated with the rest of the IP Home Port website. The truth is that it's not integrated at all, but thanks to some custom cookie handling code and some scripting that I developed it sure looks like it is!
As you know this website is privately run - it's not supported financially by the factory so I personally cover all of the on-going hosting costs, domain registration fees, software licenses, etc. At this point in time I'm just not prepared to invest the significant time and dollars that would be required to deploy a new forum application as everything else appears to be working OK ... especially given the risk that something else might get broken in the process.
All I can say to you and others that experience these delays is thanks for your continued patience; hopefully the knowledge stored in the forum is worth the wait.
Regards,
Stuart

There's a relatively easy work around for this problem. When you see a post you want to reply to or you want to create a post open a new tab or a new window. Once you send your post or reply you can close that tab/window and go back to the original tab/window to keep reading the forum.

| What I do after I post/send a message is simply click on the [Forum] button on the tab bar (next to 'Classifieds') and that takes me back to the Forum home page ... no extra windows to close, etc.
